(HOL) - Electoral delegates in Baidoa have elected 5 MPs to Somalia's House of People to represent Southwest State on Tuesday as Somalia scrambles to complete parliamentary elections by late February.

Hassan Abdinur Abdi, the federal Minister of Energy and Water Resources, won HOP184 in the first election of the day with 72 votes, while his rival Mohamed Abdullahi Ali received 27 votes.

The second election saw Sharif Mohamed Abdullahi win the HOP085 seat, defeating Mohamed Hussein Mukhtar, who received just 19 votes compared to Abdullahi’s 79.

Mohamed Mursal Mohamud won the third seat, HOP176, with 73 votes. His opponent Abdihakim Mustaf Ibrahim received 26 votes.

Mohamed Wardere Abdi won the 4th seat in his HOP046 constituency, receiving 83 votes, while his rival Abdullahi Samow Osman received 11 votes.

Finally, Mohamed Aden Mohamed won the fifth election. Mohamed won HOP156 with 88 votes, while his rival Mohamed Ibrahim Issack received just ten votes.

Wednesday’s elections in the Southwest were not a competitive affair, as all the winning MPs won by a landslide.

Somalia’s PM and regional states have pledged to accelerate parliamentary elections following the much-publicized NCC Agreement earlier this month. The parliamentary elections are slated to finish on Feb 25.
