(HOL) - The Federal Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee has validated the results of a controversial federal parliamentary election on Wednesday.

The committee cleared HOP-67, which acting NISA Director Yasin Farey won in Dhusamareb late last month amid allegations of vote-rigging.

According to the committee, the vote followed all the correct electoral procedures.

However, many election observers have noted that, as acting intelligence chief, he did not resign while contesting the parliamentary seat, as Somalia’s electoral law stipulates.

Farey was appointed in late October to lead the intelligence agency in acting capacity following the abrupt sacking of his predecessor Fahad Yasin following the disappearance of former spy agent Ikran Tahlil Farah.

Farey and other top intelligence officials were also implicated in Ikran Farah’s death by her family.

Both Yasin and Farey are both close confidantes and allies of President Farmajo.

The Dispute Resolution Committee suspended the results of last month's election following complaints by clan elders who said that Villa Somalia handpicked the delegates who elected Farey.
