The EU Special Envoy to Somalia, Ambassador Michele Cervone d'Urso pledges the EU's full support to the outcome of the 7 day visit to Kismayo by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed as reflected in the Communique' by the Prime Minister of 18 April. The Federal Government delegation, led by the Prime Minister, included Members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers as well as the Ethiopian and IGAD Envoys.

The Special Envoy welcomes the commitment of the Prime Minister in taking forward the implementation of the Addis and Mogadishu Agreements. Equally, the efforts and support of the Interim Jubba Administration leadership, and the area community including the Traditional leaders, youth and women are also appreciated. The EU acknowledges the efforts of the Somali security forces and AMISOM in the fight against Al Shabaab and for ensuring the security during the visit.

The Special Envoy urges all parties to maintain the positive momentum and ensure the overall implementation of the actions set out in the communique including, inter alia, the operationalization of the Technical Security Committee and the Joint High Level Committee, as well as the swift integration of forces in the Jubba regions and continued reconciliation efforts.

The Special Envoy remains seized and will consult closely the Federal Government, UN, IGAD, AU and international partners on a range of possible options of measures against those obstructing the Somali peace processes./.
