On Wednesday 19 October at 19:00 hours a convoy of civilian contractors was stopped at AMISOM Academy camp in Mogadishu for routine security check.
Unfortunately, one of the soldiers conducting the security check accidentally shot a driver dead and injured two others.
The injured were immediately ferried to AMISOM Level II hospital for treatment.
The families of the deceased and the injured have been notified of the unfortunate incident.
AMISOM and the security authorities of the Federal Government of Somalia have already launched a joint investigation into the incident and a final conclusion on the circumstances in which it happened will be reached soon.
The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission and Head of AMISOM, Ambassador Francisco Madeira, profoundly regrets this very unfortunate development and presents his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
He wishes quick recovery to the injured. AMISOM will continue working together with the Federal Government in upholding human rights and ensuring that peace and stability is restored in Somalia.
