It appears that Sandra Borch, the Minister of Research and Higher Education in Norway, has confirmed her resignation after admitting to copying others' text in her master's thesis. The news was brought to light by E24, which revealed that portions of Borch's thesis were identical to text from previous students' papers. Borch acknowledged her mistake, stating that it is incompatible with the responsibilities of a research minister.

During a press conference, Borch announced her resignation, expressing regret for not properly citing sources in her master's thesis written ten years ago. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong regulatory framework in her role as the Minister of Research and Higher Education. Borch admitted to being unsure about the extent of text similarities in her thesis but took full responsibility for the error.

The press conference followed E24's report on Friday evening, indicating that Borch's master's thesis contained passages identical to those from earlier papers submitted by other students. "Oslostudenten" on social media also highlighted similar instances, some of which were later corroborated by E24.

E24 reported that parts of Borch's thesis closely resembled those of a student who submitted a master's thesis in 2005 at the University of Oslo and another student from the University of Bergen in 2009. These sources were not credited in Borch's thesis, neither in the text, footnotes, nor the reference list. E24 also mentioned spelling errors in one of the identical passages.

Sandra Borch submitted her master's thesis in law in 2014 at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. VG had reported before the press conference that Borch would resign from her ministerial position, a confirmation she provided during the press conference.
