The administration of the moderate Islamist faction of Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama which is in control of partly of the central regions in Somalia has entirely pardoned fighters from their rival faction of Al-Shabab who have earlier surrendered to their faction, Radio Garowe reports.
The surrendered fighters of Al-shabab were exhibited in an open ground over the weekend in Guri-El district in Galgaduud region in central somalia.
The district commissioner of Guri-El-district Mr. Osman Isse (alias Taar Dhuled) has confirmed the surrendering of the Al-Shabab fighters for press.
“Five of Al-Shabab fighters of which two of them are officers have surrender to our faction, and we have entirely forgiven their past actions and termed as bygones are bygones, these five warriors have informed us that they were cheated and were on the wrong track and now they have known the fact about the evil faction of Al-Shabab," said Mr. Taar Dhuled the district commissioner of Guri-El town in Galgadud region.
The DC has urged the other remaining youths who are now fighting alongside Al-Shabab to surrender to their faction of Ahlu-Sunnah Waljama and has pledged forgiveness for anybody from Al-Shabab faction who joins their faction.
It was in some couple of weeks time when fighting between these two factions has taken in some locations around Guri-El districts, and caused mass casualties of death and injuries.
Pro-government Ahlu Sunna militia has been fighting to maintain control of Galgadud region late 2008, as Al Shabaab seized most southern towns and attempted to expand militarily northward.
Somalia's TFG administration in Mogadishu is allied to Ahlu Sunna militia and has given it positions in the new Cabinet. The current TFG, led by Islamist politician Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, is the international community's 15th attempt to help Somalia restore a functioning national government in Mogadishu.
