Former National Security and Intelligence Chief General Abdirahman Mohamed Tuuryare said, in a video message, that he had survived an assassination attempt. He said Somali government forces opened fire on a car he was travelling in on Sunday night in the Miranaya area of Abdiaziz district in Mogadishu.
"A new non-district force, called Duufaan [Hurricane], opened fire on the vehicle carrying my bodyguards and me,” said General Tuuryare.
There was no immediate word from security officials in the capital on the attack on the former NISA boss.
General Tuuryare, who is not used to talking about political uncertainty in the country, said he would respond to this attack. However, he did not specify what the response would be.
The situation in Mogadishu has been tense in recent days following a bitter dispute over President Farmajo’s extension of his term, which ended on February 8th.
