A Yemeni criminal court on Sunday sentenced ten Somalis convicted of hijacking a Yemeni-flagged fishing ship to five-year prison term, the official Saba news agency reported.

The ten Somalis hijacked the Yemeni fishing boat to their pirate acts, the court ordered to confiscate all seizures in the case.

Meanwhile, the court, located in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, acquitted another three Somali defendants for lacking of evidences, according to Saba.

On May 18, a court in Yemeni capital of Sanaa sentenced to death six Somalis convicted of carrying out a failed attempt to hijack a Japanese oil tanker.

About 25,000 ships pass through the Gulf of Aden every year. The water off the northern coast of Somalia is ranked as the highest risk of piracy in the world.
