The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Jean Ping, on Tuesday welcomed the endorsement by the Transitional Federal Parliament (TFP) of Somalia of the appointment of the country's new Prime Minister Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed.
He also congratulated the new Prime Minister and wished him success in his mission.
In a statement sent to media, the Chairperson expressed the hope that an efficient and representative Cabinet will be appointed and endorsed very soon to enable the Transitional Federal Institutions (TFIs) to focus on the transitional tasks, building on and consolidating the momentum generated by the decisions adopted by the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the AU on Oct. 15, 2010 and the renewed mobilization of the international community.
He called on the Somali stakeholders to demonstrate maturity and leadership in order to overcome the many challenges facing their country.
The Chairperson of the Commission reiterated the AU's continued commitment to support the Transitional Federal Government and the people of Somalia in their efforts to bring to a definite end the conflict and violence that have been tearing their country apart for two decades.
