    Somali Woman Named Farhia Sentenced to 15 Years in Jail for Kidnapping

    A court in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland has sentenced a Somali woman to 15 years in prison after she plead guilty to a crime of kidnapping.

A court in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland has sentenced a Somali woman to 15 years in prison after she plead guilty to a crime of kidnapping.


The Indicted woman, Ifrah Hassan Abdullahi, 25, was accused of stealing a two month old child in Puntland’s commercial town of Bosaso earlier this month.

Mohammed Hared, Puntland’s Court judge announced the verdict of Abdullahi in a packed court room. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

This sentence is the first of its kind for a Puntland court to carry out. In recent years kidnapping in the region has reached epic levels.
