    Somalia: Puntland President Farole announces political party elections in every town

    GAROWE, Somalia Sep 15 2012 (Garowe Online) — Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole announced on Saturday that political party elections would be occurring in every district in Puntland, Garowe Online reports.

GAROWE, Somalia Sep 15 2012 (Garowe Online) — Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole announced on Saturday that political party elections would be occurring in every district in Puntland, Garowe Online reports. At the event Puntland Vice President Abdisamad Ali Shire and Director of the Electoral Commission Dr. Mohamed Hassan Barre were all in attendance to open the event which will describe what the political party elections laws and regulations are and how to enter the race.

Speaking at Puntland Development and Research Center (PDRC) in Garowe, President Farole who opened the event announced that the political party elections would be held in every town and district in Puntland.

“There will be elections in every district and every town existing in Puntland now and later, whoever gets left behind should not blame anyone,” said President Farole.

Dr. Barre also gave a brief statement at the event discussing Puntland’s success in approving a constitution and now moving towards a political party system in Puntland.

Abdirasak Hareed Ismail Deputy Minister of Security promised to secure polling stations and deal swiftly with anyone who attempts to cause any harm to voters and the democratic transition.

President Farole also stated that the political party system is open to anyone who wants to run and that Puntland would be moving out of the clan based system.

“Anyone who does not feel confident in the system I don’t have a place for you, the political party system is open to whoever agrees on policies and not clan and we welcome that,” said President Farole.

In the coming months the political party campaigns will be taking place which has been highly anticipated and will bring a different system of politics to the people of Puntland.
