Jürgen Klopp has announced his decision to step down as the manager of Liverpool at the end of the current season. Following his communication with the club's ownership, Klopp, 56, will remain at the helm for the remaining fixtures of the 2023-24 campaign, concluding his highly successful eight-and-a-half-year tenure at Anfield.

The announcement comes on the heels of Liverpool's recent qualification for another Wembley final. Klopp, who has guided the team to six major trophies, expressed his commitment to see through the ongoing season and emphasized his gratitude for the memorable journey.

Assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, along with elite development coach Vitor Matos, will also depart at the season's end. Lijnders is eager to explore managerial opportunities.

In a heartfelt statement, Klopp shed light on the reasons behind his decision, citing a natural decrease in energy levels. Despite his deep love for the club, city, supporters, team, and staff, Klopp emphasized that this decision is one he believes is necessary for both personal and professional reasons.

Klopp, who took the reins as Liverpool manager on October 8, 2015, oversaw a transformative period, securing titles such as the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Super Cup, as well as the FA Community Shield.

While there are still months left in the ongoing season, Klopp intends to postpone any farewell activities until his final game in charge in May. With Liverpool actively engaged in four competitions, Klopp urged everyone to maintain focus on maximizing success for the remainder of the season.

Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon expressed deep appreciation for Klopp's contributions, acknowledging his lasting impact on the club and supporters. Gordon affirmed a commitment to a seamless transition while maintaining normalcy until Klopp's tenure concludes. Klopp's departure is seen as an opportunity to prepare for the future while cherishing the remaining moments of the current season.
